RedazioneRawthentic, un gioco di parole che mischia la parola raw (grezzo) e quella authentic (autentico). Due termini che descrivono perfettamente Carlo Lio e la sua etichetta, la Rawthentic.
Ed è proprio con Carlo Lio che abbiamo scambiato due chiacchiere sulla sua label e sull’emozione di entrare a far parte della storia di Ibizia esibendosi al The Final Chapter dello Space di Ibiza al fianco di Carl Cox.

Hai fatto parte dell’Off Sonar week quest’anno, che sensazioni si porta dietro Carlo Lio da un evento così?
Il periodo del Sonar per me è sempre speciale. È una delle settimane che aspetto di più durante l’anno anche perchè si svolge a Barcellona, la mia seconda casa ed un posto in cui amo stare. Inoltre si incontrano un sacco di amici da tutto il mondo, ci sono sempre eventi e location fantastiche ed ogni volta si spingono oltre I limiti, tutto ciò rende fantastico suonare in questo periodo, vorresti non finisse mai.
Hai collaborato con tantissime etichette durante gli anni e hai anche guidato la tua Rawthentic. Qual’è la principale differenza tra produrre per la propria label e produrre per qualcun’altro?
Sulla tua etichetta puoi far uscire tutto quello che vuoi, mentre per produrre per altri devi incontrare l’approvazione dal boss ed avvicinarti di più al suono della label, sicuramente e fantastico essere in una posizione che mi permette di fare entrambe le cose.
Carlo Lio è tra gli ospiti del “The Final Chapter”, la serie di spettacoli più attesa di quest’anno, sensazioni?
Fare parte dell’ultima è un grande onore per me. Era un sogno anche solo essere in questo incredibile club e evento e adesso se guardo indietro ho avuto la possibilità di suonare. Negli ultimi cinque anni, con sua maestà Carl Cox, non ci sono parole in grado di esprimere ciò che provo. Sono estremamente felice e onorato di poter far parte di una notte che entrerà molto facilmente nella storia di Ibiza.
Qual’è la situazione musicale nel tuo paese (Canada), come va la scena techno da quelle parti?
Il Canada è fantastico da questo punto di vista. La scena di Toronto è eccellente da quando ho iniziato, non mancano clubs o appassionati e ogni fine settimana ci sono vari spettacoli di livello internazionale, possiamo tranquillamente dire che ce la passiamo alla grande.
In quale parte del mondo preferisce suonare Carlo Lio? Qual’è il pubblico che più di tutti ti scalda il cuore?
È sempre una domanda difficile a cui rispondere perchè ci sono veramente molti posti incredibili, ma negli ultimi anni Ibiza è sempre stata al top. Anche la Grecia e il Portogallo, dove ho passato delle notti indimenticabili ultimamente e non vedo l’ora di tornarci.
Un artista in particolare su cui tenere gli occhi per I prossimi anni? Qual’è il prossimo crack secondo te?
Credo che Clio sia pronto per esplodere, è da molto tempo che suono i suoi dischi e credo sia pronto per il prossimo passo, adoro quello che ha fatto sin dai suoi esordi.

You’ve been part of a couple of weeks in the Off Sonar week this year, which are the feelings and the feedbacks from an event like this?
Sonar Time for me is always really special. Its one of the music weeks I look forward to the most. Its in my second home Barcelona, where I love to be. And of course you get to see your friends from all around the world. There is always amazing events and amazing venues, and seems that they are always pushing the boundaries. So it’s always really great to play during this time. It’s never long enough!
You’ve worked with a lot of labels trough the years, and have also managed your own, Rawthentic, which is the main difference in producing for your own label or producing for someone else?
Well having your own label you can really release whatever you want. Where as producing for another label you have to get the approvals from who ever is in charge and cater more to that labels sound. Regardless, it’s great to be in a position to be able to do both.
You’re also scheduled for “The Final Chapter” the most anticipated residency for this Ibiza season, how do you feel about that?
Well to say the least, it’s a huge honor for me. It was a dream to just attend this special club and event, and now having been able to get to play it for the past 5 years along side the king himself, Carl Cox, well not many words can describe that feeling. I’m just extremely happy and honored to be involved in a night that will easily go down in Ibiza history.
You’re from Canada, what’s the musical situation right now in your country, is Techno music going good in those places?
Canada is great. The Toronto scene has been super strong ever since the day I walked into it. We have no shortage of clubs and people who crave this music. We have numerous international acts each weekend in the city too, so it’s safe to say we are doing great musically!!
Which place around the world is your favourite for playing, which is the crowd that “warm your heart” the most?
It’s always a hard question to answer, because there really are so many great places. But over the past couple years but IBIZA is always up there on top. But I also have big soft spot for Greece & Portugal. These 2 places have given me some really amazing events recently. I can’t wait to go back!
An artist Carlo Lio would recommend for the next years? Who is the new crack in your opinion?
I think Clio is ready to break. I been playing his productions for a long time, but I think its time for him to hit that next step. Really love what he’s been doing since day one.
