RedazioneFrank Storm, all’anagrafe Francesco Maffei, con i suoi soli 24 anni ed il suo gusto per la combinazione di suoni caldi e sfumature techno è sicuramente parte di questa nuova generazione di DJ che portano avanti lo spirito originale del clubbing.
Frank Storm è italiano, nato a Pisa, cresciuto a Milano, da cinque anni risiede tra Barcellona ed Ibiza e da due è Resident ad Unusual Suspects presso Sankeys Ibiza. Ci abbiamo scambiato due parole per conoscerne i progetti e capirne lo sviluppo professionale.

Hai appena concluso la stagione estiva ad Ibiza perciò prometto di venirti incontro ed essere breve. A parte gli scherzi, ora prosegui la tua residenza presso Unusual Suspects durante la stagione invernale o hai altri piani?
Eheh, in effetti è stata abbastanza intensa però nel frattempo mi sono già spostato per suonare all’ADE in Olanda. Per fortuna la musica non si ferma mai. Comunque sì, proseguirò con la mia residenza ad Unusual Suspects durante l’inverno sia nelle date ibizenche che in quelle fuori dell’isola. Durante questo periodo vivo a Barcellona.
Ti stai dedicando ad una carriera artistica il che richiede molta volontà ed infinito impegno. Ora sei sulla rampa di lancio, ti ricordi il momento in cui hai deciso di dedicarti unicamente alla musica?
Fin dall’inizio è stato questo il mio obiettivo e piano piano son riuscito a raggiungerlo. In sintesi però è stato lavorando fin da piccolo nei locali, questo per esattezza è il decimo anno.
La tua traccia “Extension”, prodotta in collaborazione con Simon T, è stata da poco inclusa in un volume insieme ad impressionanti nomi della scena house underground internazionale come Franck Roger, Alex Arnout, Sascha Dive ed altri. Pensi di sorprenderci presto con nuove produzioni?
In uscita a breve ci sarà un EP di tre mie tracce su Snatch e di una ulteriore sulla nota etichetta berlinese Serialism.
Il movimento della musica elettronica e del clubbing è in costante espansione, quali bisogni della società odierna pensi di soddisfare?
Spero sicuramente di soddisfare il divertimento e cerco sempre di trasmettere una buona energia al dancefloor.
Oltre ad Ibiza, hai suonato molto anche in Italia e molte altre parti del mondo. Sviluppando un talento nell’individuare le preferenze musicali da parte del pubblico. Sono curiosa, qual’è stato per te il dancefloor più imprevedibile?
Sicuramente uno dei luoghi più particolari dove ho suonato è stato in Guatemala, nella giungla ad Antigua, nel mezzo di tre vulcani. Otto ore di dj set dal tramonto all’alba. Una sensazione veramente incredibile ed un pubblico straordinariamente caldo ed energico.

Francesco Maffei aka Frank Storm is only 24 years old and, with his taste for hot sounds mixed to techno shades, definitely part of this new Dj generation who are carrying on the original clubbing spirit.
Frank Storm was born in Pisa (Italy), grown up in Milan he lived the past five years between Barcelona and Ibiza. Since two years he’s Resident at Unusual Suspects at Sankeys Ibiza. We exchanged a few words with him to speak about his projects and understand his professional development.
You just concluded your Ibiza summer season, therefore I promise to be short. Will you continue your residency at Unusual Suspects during the winter season or do you have other plans?
(Laugh) It was quite intense to be honest but I already moved to play at ADE in the Netherlands recently. You know, music never stops. Yes, I’ll continue with my residency at Unusual Suspects during the winter, for the ibizian dates and for the one off the island as well. But I’m back in Barcelona during this time.
Being on an artistic career requires lot of commitment. Now you’re on the launch pad, d’you remember that moment when you decided to dedicate yourself exclusively to music?
This was my goal since the begin and step by step I got there. But ressuming it was working in clubs since very young, actually this is the thenth year.
Your track “Extension”, produced feat Simon T, was just included in a volume with other impressive names from the international undergound house scene like Frank Roger, Alex Arnout, Sascha Dive and many more. D’you think to sorprend us with new productions soon?
The releases of an EP, including three tracks, on Snatch and one on the Berlin based label Serialism are coming soon.
The electronic music movement and clubbing scene is constantly expanding, what needs d’you think to satisfy?
I certainly hope to meet the need of entertainment and always try to spread good energy over the dance floor.
In addition to Ibiza you played in Italy and many other places in the world. You certainly developed a talent in spotting the different musical preferences from the audience. I’m curious, what was the most unpredictable dance floor for you?
For sure one of the most outstanding locations where I played was in Guatemala, in the Antigua jungle in the middle of three volcanoes. Eight hours of dj set from dusk till dawn. A truly amazing feeling and an extraordinarily warm and energetic crowd.
