Il tuo esordio da dj, a quando risale, dove eri, come ti chiamavi?
Ho iniziato come dj quando avevo 18 anni. Non ho usato il nome Harvard Bass da sempre. All’inizio suonavo diversi generi specialmente rap, così decisi di chiamarmi Sleazy V. (Haha.) V. sta ad indicare Victor che è il mio vero nome.
La tua musica negli anni si è evoluta con te. Quali scelte musicali hai fatto nella tua carriera?
Quando ho iniziato ad ascoltare musica elettronica, le mie grandi influenze erano Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Miguel Migs, Claude Vonstroke. Ero innamorato della Bay Area e Chicago house sound. Quando ho iniziato a produrre musica, ero molto addentrato nell’electro e nell’house. Nel corso degli anni, il suono della mia musica è passato dall’electro all’house di oggi e al sound techno. Si trattava di qualcosa che stava accadendo in modo naturale, durante il mio processo di crescita. Credo che noi tutti tendiamo a maturare il suono man mano che cresciamo.
Tu non approdi direttamente ad un genere specifico, techno, house ed electro sono il tuo pane quotidiano, ma quale è stato il tuo percorso?
L’house e la techno mi hanno decisamente influenzato, anche se a me piace aggiungere il mio stile, e così risulta essere attraente ed eccitante. Credo che sia così che descriverei la mia musica.
Remixare, produrre, suonare live o in djset: cosa preferisci e perché?
Sicuramente ora produco. Amo tutti e tre ma niente può essere comparato al terminare una propria produzione e ascoltarla. Quello è il meglio.
Di tutto ciò che hai fatto in carriera, c’è una cosa che al risveglio ti rende veramente orgoglioso e felice?
Sono fiero di ogni registrazione che ho fatto, ma se dovessi scegliere, sarebbe il mio recente album su Relief Records. Lanciare un album sull’etichetta Green Velvets è stato un sogno diventato realtà. Collaborare con lui è stato inoltre meraviglioso.
Viaggi il mondo, dove sei ora e che fai?
È capodanno e sto mangiando quesadilla mentre guardo fuori dal finestrino di questo treno che viaggia verso Los Angeles per portarmi a prendere un volo verso Montreal dove suonerò al Turbo Recordings Party e dove, successivamente, spero di fare l’amore con una bellissima ragazza franco-canadese, grazie al mio terribile accento messicano-americano e il mio nuovo taglio di capelli.
Quali sono i tuoi impegni futuri?
Un EP con Seth Troxler & Martinez Bros Label Tuskegee e un mucchio di altre attrattive sessuali per le quali devo restare calmo.

When did you first start as a DJ? Did you always use the name “Harvard Bass”?
I started Djing when I was 18 years old.
I didn’t always use the name Harvard Bass. In the beginning I was playing a lot of genres especially rap so i decided to name myself Sleazy V. Haha. V for Victor which is my first name of course.
Over the years, your music has developed a lot. Has this been a conscious choice, or something that happened naturally?
When I first began to listen to electronic music my first big influences were Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Miguel Migs, Claude Vonstroke. I was in love with the Bay Area and Chicago house sound. When I began to produce music I was much into electro and house. Throughout the years my sound progressed from electro to a now more house and techno sound. It was definitely something that happened naturally during the process of growing older. I believe we all tend to mature in sound as we get older.
You seem to float really well in between genres, playing a mixture of house, techno and everything in between. How would you describe your sound?
It’s house and techno influenced definitely but I like to add my own flavor to it. It’s gotta be sexy. Shit that’ll make panties wet – I guess that’s how I would describe it.
DJ’ing, producing or remixing, and why?
Right now it’s definitely producing. I love all three but nothing compares to finishing up your own production and listening to it. It’s the best.
On the producing side, is there anything you’ve been more proud of over the other records?
I’m mad proud of every record I’ve made but if I had to choose it would be my recent album on Relief Records. Releasing an album on Green Velvets label was a dream come true. Collaborating with him was also amazing too. Damn this shit is tite!
Where are you at the moment?
It’s New Years Eve, I’m eating a quesadilla looking out the window of this train ride to Los Angeles to catch a flight to Montreal where I will Play a Turbo Recordings Party where, after, I hope to make love with a beautiful French-Canadian girl because of my awful Mexican-American accent and my fresh new hair cut.
Whats next for Harvard Bass?
An EP on Seth Troxler & Martinez Bros Label Tuskegee and a bunch of other sexiness that I must remain quiet about.
