Prima di tutto, come stai? L’anno scorso è stato un anno importante per te e per il tuo progetto.
Ciao <3 Grazie mille per avermi qui. Mi sento benissimo, grazie per averlo chiesto. L’anno scorso è stato sicuramente un anno importante. Sono così grata per il 2024 e per tutto ciò che è accaduto.
“Sapiosensual” – il tuo nuovo brano uscito il 30 gennaio – esplora l’idea della connessione umana e dell’attrazione sapiosessuale. In che modo questo concetto ha influenzato il tuo processo creativo e cosa speri che gli ascoltatori colgano da questo brano oltre alla musica stessa?
Beh, per cominciare, io sono sapiosessuale. Per me, la mente è la parte più bella di una persona, oltre all’anima. Il corpo è solo la ciliegina sulla torta, ma la vera attrazione, per me, inizia nella mente. Credo di aver voluto condividere questa parte di me attraverso “Sapiosensual”, per esprimere quanto siano importanti le connessioni profonde e intime, quelle che vanno oltre l’attrazione superficiale e che esistono davvero tra due anime che si incontrano attraverso le loro menti. Sento che questa è l’essenza stessa della nostra umanità: la nostra capacità di connetterci a un livello più profondo e consapevole, e credo che questa energia sia stata pienamente canalizzata in questo brano.
Lanciare il tuo imprint Halcyon Label è un traguardo significativo. Come immagini la sua evoluzione nel panorama della musica elettronica e quale voce unica speri che porti nel settore?
Grazie per averlo sottolineato, e questa non è la mia prima etichetta! Halcyon Label è l’evoluzione naturale di una visione che ho iniziato a realizzare nel 2019. Il mio primo imprint, Ear Porn Music, l’ho lanciato quando avevo vent’anni, pubblicando musica di artisti da tutto il mondo, con il supporto di alcuni dei nomi più rispettati del settore. Anche se è rimasta un’etichetta indipendente, è stata un successo a modo suo. Abbiamo costruito un brand forte, curato eventi significativi e persino ospitato il nostro party di lancio al Sound Nightclub di Los Angeles. Ho invitato Nola, un’artista che ho scoperto tramite Cercle, e ho presentato creatori come Esteban Joseph, un incredibile gioielliere che realizza USB di cristallo. Guardando indietro, quella fase sembra appartenere a un’altra vita, eppure è stata la base per qualcosa di ancora più grande.
Da allora, ho attraversato una trasformazione personale e artistica enorme, lasciando andare vecchie parti di me, evolvendomi e raffinando la mia visione.
Un catalizzatore profondo di questo percorso è stato il mio lavoro con le piante medicinali. L’esperienza con alcune delle più potenti medicine psichedeliche mi ha portata a molte rinascite, espandendo la mia coscienza, dissolvendo vecchie limitazioni e permettendomi di allinearmi più profondamente con la mia arte. Queste esperienze hanno plasmato la mia direzione creativa, influenzando non solo il mio sound ma anche il modo in cui racconto storie attraverso la musica.
Man mano che continuo a evolvermi, anche la mia espressione artistica cambia, e Halcyon è un’estensione di questa evoluzione—un’espressione più raffinata, intenzionale ed espansiva di ciò che inizialmente volevo creare. La mia visione è offrire una casa agli artisti il cui lavoro merita di essere ascoltato, indipendentemente dalla loro presenza sui social media o dallo status nell’industria musicale. Ci sono tantissimi produttori incredibilmente talentuosi che mettono l’anima nella loro arte, ma che rimangono dietro le quinte mentre la loro musica viene suonata sui palchi dei festival da artisti più affermati. Halcyon esiste per colmare questo divario—per dare a questi artisti il riconoscimento e le opportunità che meritano, per portare la loro musica in primo piano e creare uno spazio in cui la vera arte possa prosperare.
La musica è un viaggio di continua trasformazione, un riflesso in continua evoluzione dell’anima. Proprio come io continuo a espandermi ed evolvermi, così farà Halcyon. È un veicolo di crescita, non solo per me, ma anche per gli artisti e la comunità che ne plasmeranno il futuro.
Le tue opere recenti rappresentano un’evoluzione nel tuo sound. Cosa ha scatenato questo cambiamento e come vedi la tua musica evolversi ulteriormente in questa nuova fase?
Sento che il mio sound si sia continuamente evoluto sin dal primo brano che ho pubblicato. Non c’è stato un momento o un evento preciso che ha scatenato questo cambiamento: è semplicemente una riflessione della mia costante crescita come artista e come persona. Vedo la musica come un’espressione del sé in continua trasformazione, plasmata dalle esperienze, dalle emozioni e dalle metamorfosi che viviamo. Man mano che proseguo in questo nuovo capitolo, so che il mio sound continuerà a espandersi in modi che non posso prevedere completamente, ma è proprio questa la bellezza: permettere al processo creativo di fluire naturalmente, senza limiti.
Guardando al tuo percorso dal tuo album di debutto “RE:BIRTH” fino a oggi, come riesci a mantenere la tua identità artistica mentre sperimenti nuove idee e stili?
Per me, evolvermi come artista è essenziale. Non voglio mai sentirmi stagnante o confinata in un unico suono. “RE:BIRTH” è stato un progetto profondamente personale e gratificante. Ha catturato un periodo della mia vita, il mio ritorno di saturno—il mio passaggio spirituale all’età adulta. Ma proprio come la vita, anche la mia arte è in continua espansione e trasformazione.
Detto questo, credo che mantenere la mia identità artistica dipenda dall’intenzione. Per quanto possa sperimentare con nuovi suoni, influenze o tecniche, la mia musica porterà sempre l’essenza di chi sono—le emozioni che canalizzo, la profondità che cerco e la frequenza che voglio condividere con il mondo. Non vedo la crescita e l’autenticità come forze opposte; anzi, vanno di pari passo. Evoluzione e rinascita sono una parte fondamentale del mio percorso, e lo abbraccio pienamente, restando sempre connessa alle radici del mio cuore e della mia anima.
La tua musica spesso incanala un’energia spirituale e sacra. In che modo questi elementi influenzano il tuo processo di produzione e come risuonano con i tuoi ascoltatori in un genere spesso percepito come edonistico e legato al divertimento?
La spiritualità e l’energia sacra sono il cuore di tutto ciò che creo. Il mio processo di produzione è un rituale: attraverso la meditazione, la respirazione consapevole o semplicemente muovendomi intenzionalmente, canalizzo l’energia in ogni suono.
La musica elettronica è spesso vista come edonistica, ma per me la pista da ballo è uno spazio sacro di connessione, liberazione e trascendenza. La musica ha il potere di trasformare l’energia, guarire e creare esperienze condivise che vanno oltre il livello fisico. Penso che sia per questo che il mio suono risuona con gli ascoltatori: porta con sé qualcosa di più profondo, qualcosa di intenzionale. Che sia su un palco di un festival o in un momento di solitudine, il mio obiettivo è che la mia musica venga percepita a livello dell’anima. L’energia che vi infondo è destinata a perdurare oltre quell’istante.
Hai tratto ispirazione da molti generi e periodi storici diversi. Come integri queste influenze in un sound coerente che rimane unicamente tuo?
Il mio suono non è radicato in un’unica epoca o movimento. Attingo da tantissimi periodi, culture ed esperienze—dai giorni della trance del 2007 fino ai paesaggi sonori profondi ed emotivi con cui mi connetto oggi. Ogni progetto ha una sua storia, e le influenze che canalizzo dipendono dall’energia che voglio creare. Il mio processo è intuitivo—lascio che questi elementi fluiscano attraverso di me, mantenendomi sempre ancorata alla mia identità artistica. Non si tratta mai di ricreare un suono specifico, ma piuttosto di tradurre l’ispirazione in qualcosa di personale e senza tempo.
Tornando al tuo nuovo brano Sapiosensual e al suo concetto: pensi che la tua musica possa favorire un pensiero critico più profondo, andando oltre le cose, e stimolare un coinvolgimento emotivo nei tuoi ascoltatori?
Sì. La mia musica porta con sé messaggi sonori ed è sempre creata con intenzione. Credo che il suono possa stimolare l’introspezione e incoraggiare un pensiero critico più profondo, ma soprattutto, può guarire. Sapiosensual esplora la connessione consapevole, ma questo tema permea tutto il mio lavoro. Nel mio prossimo singolo su Interstellar Recordings di Insomniac Records, ho scritto testi sulla razza umana e sulla nostra unità—per ricordarci che in realtà siamo un’unica razza: la razza umana. Siamo tutti connessi.
Quale ruolo credi abbiano gli artisti e i creativi nell’affrontare il declino del pensiero critico a livello globale? E in che modo vedi il tuo lavoro contribuire a questo dialogo?
Credo che gli artisti abbiano un ruolo profondo nel plasmare prospettive, suscitare curiosità e incoraggiare un pensiero più profondo. La musica, nella sua essenza, è narrazione—trascende il linguaggio, la cultura e i sistemi di credenze, creando uno spazio in cui le persone possono sentire, riflettere ed espandere la propria mente al di là del rumore della vita quotidiana. In un’epoca in cui il pensiero critico sembra in declino, credo che gli artisti abbiano il potere di guidare le persone verso un viaggio interiore, aiutandole a porsi domande, a cercare risposte e a connettersi con qualcosa di più grande di loro stesse.
Per me, la musica non è solo suono; è frequenza, emozione e intenzione. Attraverso il mio lavoro, voglio creare esperienze sonore che risveglino qualcosa dentro—che sia introspezione, connessione o semplicemente un cambiamento di consapevolezza. Hi Lauren! Firstly, how are you doing? This past year was a big year for you and your project.
Lauren Mia: Hello <3 Thank you so much for having me. I’m feeling amazing. Thank you for asking. Last year was definitely a big year. I’m so grateful for 2024 and all that transpired.
“Sapiosensual” – your new track released on the 30th of January – explores the idea of conscious human connection and sapiosexual attraction.
How did this concept influence your creative process, and what do you hope listeners take away from this track beyond the music itself?
Lauren Mia: Well, to start—I am a sapiosexual. To me, the mind is the most beautiful part of a person, outside of the soul. The body is just the cherry on top, but real attraction, for me, begins in the mind. I guess I wanted to share this part of myself through “Sapiosensual”—to express how important deep, intimate connections are, the kind that go beyond surface-level attraction and truly exist between two souls, meeting through their minds. I feel like this is the very essence of our humanity—our ability to connect on that deeper, more conscious level—and I believe that energy was fully channeled into this record.
Launching your own imprint Halcyon Label is a significant milestone.
How do you envision it evolving in the electronic music space, and what unique voice do you hope it brings to the industry?
Lauren Mia: Thank you for pointing that out, and this isn’t my first label! Halcyon Label is the natural evolution of a vision I first brought to life in 2019. My initial imprint, Ear Porn Music, was something I launched in my 20s, releasing music from artists across the world, with support from some of the most respected names in the industry. While it remained an independent label, it was a success in its own right. We built a strong brand, curated meaningful events, and even hosted our launch party at Sound Nightclub in LA. I brought out Nola, an artist I first discovered through Cercle, and showcased creators like Esteban Joseph, an incredible jeweler crafting crystal USBs. Looking back, that chapter feels like a lifetime ago, yet it was the foundation for something much greater.
Since then, I’ve undergone immense personal and artistic transformation, shedding layers of myself, evolving, and refining my vision.
A profound catalyst in this journey has been my deep work with plant medicine. Engaging with some of the most powerful psychedelic medicines has led me through multiple rebirths—expanding my consciousness, dissolving past limitations, and allowing me to step into deeper alignment with my artistry. These experiences have reshaped my creative direction, influencing not only my sound but also the way I approach storytelling through music.
As I continue to evolve, so does my artistic expression, and Halcyon is an extension of that evolution—a more refined, intentional, and expansive embodiment of what I first set out to create. At its core, Halcyon is more than a label; it is a community, a sanctuary for artists who create with authenticity and depth. My vision is to provide a home for artists whose work deserves to be heard, regardless of social media presence or industry status. There are so many incredibly talented producers who pour their souls into their craft, only to remain behind the scenes while their music fills festival stages played by more established artists. Halcyon exists to bridge that gap—to give these artists the recognition and opportunities they deserve, to bring their music to the forefront, and to cultivate a space where true artistry thrives.
Music is a journey of constant transformation, an ever-evolving reflection of the soul. Just as I continue to expand and evolve, so will Halcyon. It is a vessel for growth, not only for myself but for the artists and community that will shape its future.
Your recent works represent an evolution in your sound. What triggered this shift, and how do you see your music evolving further as you navigate this new chapter?
Lauren Mia: I feel like my sound has been evolving from the moment I first started releasing music. There wasn’t necessarily a single moment or event that triggered this shift—it’s simply a reflection of my constant growth as an artist and as a person. I see music as an ever-evolving expression of self, shaped by the experiences, emotions, and transformations we go through. As I continue navigating this new chapter, I know my sound will keep expanding in ways I can’t fully predict, but that’s the beauty of it—allowing the creative process to unfold naturally, without limitations.
Reflecting on your journey from your debut album ‘RE:BIRTH‘ to now, how do you balance retaining your core artistic identity while experimenting with new ideas and styles?
Lauren Mia: For me, evolving as an artist is essential. I never want to feel stagnant or boxed into one specific sound. ‘RE:BIRTH’ was such a deeply personal and rewarding project. It captured a period of my life, my Saturn Return – my spiritual right of passage into adulthood. But just like life, my artistry is constantly shifting, expanding, and evolving.
That said, I think staying true to my core identity comes down to intention. No matter how much I experiment with new sounds, influences, or techniques, my music will always carry the essence of who I am—the emotions I channel, the depth I seek, and the frequency I want to share with the world. I don’t see growth and authenticity as opposing forces; they go hand in hand. Evolution and rebirth is a massive part of the path I have chosen, and I embrace it fully while always staying connected to the foundation and essence of my heart and soul, which makes my sound mine.
Your music often channels spiritual and sacred energy. How do these elements shape your production process, and how do they resonate with your listeners in a genre often perceived as hedonistic with partying?
Lauren Mia: Spirituality and sacred energy are at the core of everything I create. My production process is a ritual—whether through meditation, breathwork, or simply setting an intention, I channel energy into every sound.
Electronic music is often seen as hedonistic, but for me, the dance floor is a sacred space for connection, release, and transcendence. Music has the power to shift energy, to heal, and to create shared experiences that go beyond the physical. I think that’s why my sound resonates with listeners—it carries something deeper, something intentional. Whether on a festival stage or in a moment of solitude, my goal is for my music to be felt on a soul level. The energy I pour into it is meant to linger beyond that moment.
You have taken inspiration from many different genres and time periods. How do you integrate different influences into a cohesive sound that remains uniquely your own?
Lauren Mia: My sound isn’t rooted in any single era or movement. I pull from so many different times, cultures, and experiences—from the trance days of 2007 to the deep, emotive soundscapes I connect with today. Every project has its own story, and the influences I channel depend on the energy I want to create. My process is intuitive—I let these elements flow through me while staying grounded in my own artistic identity. It’s never about recreating a specific sound but rather translating inspiration into something personal and timeless.
Coming back to your new track “Sapiosensual” and its concept: do you see your music fostering deeper critical thinking, going beyond things, and emotional engagement among listeners?
Lauren Mia: Yes. My music carries sonic messages and is always created with intention. I believe sound can spark introspection and encourage deeper critical thinking, but above all, it heals. “Sapiosensual” explores conscious connection, but this theme runs throughout my work. In my upcoming single on Insomniac Record’s Interstellar Recordings, I wrote lyrics about the human race and our oneness—reminding us that really we are one race – the human race. We are all connected.
What role do you believe artists and creators have in addressing the decline of critical thinking globally, and how do you see your own work contributing to this dialogue?
Lauren Mia: I feel artists have a profound role in shaping perspectives, sparking curiosity, and encouraging deeper thought. Music, at its core, is storytelling—it transcends language, culture, and belief systems, creating space for people to feel, reflect, and expand their minds beyond the noise of everyday life. In a time where critical thinking seems to be declining, I believe artists have the power to guide people inward, helping them question, seek, and connect with something greater than themselves.
For me, music isn’t just about sound; it’s about frequency, emotion, and intention. Through my work, I aim to create sonic experiences that awaken something within—whether that’s introspection, connection, or simply a shift in awareness. I want my music to serve as a catalyst for deeper thought, for feeling beyond the surface, and for tuning into a more conscious way of experiencing the world.
